The "Create Hong Kong 2020" Hong Kong Drawing Contest, which was jointly organised by St. James' Settlement Continued Education Centre, Arthome and Information Services Department, aimed to encourage its participants to express their observation of life and aspirations for the city’s future through drawings. The contest had two categories: ‘Creative’ and ‘Drawing’ with four sub-groups: junior, intermediate, senior and public, for interested participants of all ages. Under the Creative Category, participants were allowed to use any two-dimensional media to create a future scene of Hong Kong in 2020. As for the Drawing Category, participants submitted monochrome drawing/s of place/s in Hong Kong that they cherished and which they hoped would still exist in 2020.
The response was overwhelming and we received 619 artworks in the for Creative Category and 365 artworks in the Drawing Category. After the first screening by our adjudicating panel, 48 finalists were short-listed from each category to participate in the Final Contest held in mid-December 2008. From the Final Contest, 24 Grand Prize winners are exhibited here.
