Event date: 01/01/2026 - 31/12/2026

Yau Ma Tei Police Station: A Cinematic Journey “Police Stations” in the World of Cinema – Infinite Imagination and Transformation About the Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station The Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station, built in 1922 in British Edwardian architectural style, is one of Hong Kong’s few surviving pre‑war police stations. Many classic Hong Kong films were shot outside the station, turning the station into an icon of Hong Kong police and crime films and attracting countless visitors. Today, it has become one of the tourist hotspots planned by the Government’s Working Group on Developing Tourist Hotspots set up in 2024. The Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency has specially invited Hong Kong film professionals to creatively reimagine part of the Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station with ingenuity to showcase the essence of classic Hong Kong police and crime films. The police station is open to the public so that visitors may explore the inside of a police station and go on the cinematic journey of classic Hong Kong police and crime films. Renowned for undercover intrigue, daring action, bustling street chases, and high‑speed pursuits, Hong Kong police and crime films have, for decades, created a genre that gained international recognition and produced many celebrated directors and stars. This exhibition links up the police station, Hong Kong police and crime films, and film sets. Entering through a retro-style cinema entrance, visitors step into an immersive environment in which they can relive the exciting moments of classic police and crime films, meeting the dazzling heroes and villains again, and immerse yourself in the world of gunfights, infights and the gritty world of the police and the criminals. Once inside the police station, visitors are in the CID Office reimagined by film art designers. Blurring reality and illusion, it allows visitors to travel through time and space to retrace the footsteps and clues of classic Hong Kong police and crime films, while appreciating the creative insights of professionals in different behind the scenes and roles. Welcome to an authentic police station and experience the cinematic ambience of the CID Office! Exhibition Details Filming inside an operating police station is not possible. All police stations in Hong Kong police and crime films are re-imagined and designed. This limitation actually opens up boundless creative possibilities for art directors. From the hyper‑realistic sets of the 1980s and 1990s — complete with Kwan Kung altars and government wooden desks — to the expansive glass walls and wide‑open action spaces in “Infernal Affairs”, and later the postmodern, high‑tech facilities in “Cold War”, the design of police stations continues to evolve, becoming the genre’s most expressive artistic elements. This exhibition also showcases a CID Office of the 1970s and 1980s designed by film art director with realism and creativity. The Exhibition features four parts that allow visitors to immerse into a film set.
