The 49th Hong Kong International Film Festival showcases nearly 200 films from 69 countries and regions, including 6 world premieres, 2 international premieres, and 52 Asian premieres. The debut Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens at the new Kai Tak Stadium saw Argentina beat France 12-7 while New Zealand won the women’s tournament defeating Australia 26-10 in the final. Hosts Hong Kong, China clinched the men’s and women’s Melrose Claymores titles beating China and Kazakhstan respectively in front of more than 110,000 fans after three days of intense competition as well as non-stop entertainment and family fun.

The world’s longest-standing and most influential cryptocurrency, blockchain and Web3 event, Consensus, picks Hong Kong to be the first destination to expand its global footprint beyond North America. The HK Monetary Authority will host the third Summit, including a welcome dinner, the main summit and an investment forum. Every Mid-Autumn Festival, the Tai Hang neighbourhood comes alive with a glowing dragon dance performed by over 300 people for three nights. This tradition dates back to the 19th century, when villagers used the fire dragon dance to combat a plague, accompanied by drums and gongs. Today, the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance is recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage and continues to draw crowds to the blazing annual spectacle.

The World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship is the highest junior-level tournament organised by World Lacrosse. The Hong Kong Palace Museum with the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris unveiled “The Adorned Body: French Fashion and Jewellery 1770–1910 from the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris”, one of the four major exhibitions in the West Kowloon Cultural District in 2024 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. The Adorned Body features nearly 400 stunning items of clothing, jewellery and accessories dating from the late 18th to the early 20th century. This is first time the prestigious Paris museum’s comprehensive collection of historical French fashionwear is displayed in Asia. The exhibition also features trilingual audio guides narrated by singer and fashionista Karen Mok.

Congrats to the winners of the Elevator Pitch Competition (EPiC) 2024 Grand Finale at Sky100, Hong Kong (Apr 26). After a series of four semi-finals held in Hong Kong, Silicon Valley, Stuttgart, and Singapore, the biggest ever Grand Finale featured presentations by more than 70 start-ups from around the world, including 15 from Hong Kong. A round of applause for the first LIV Golf Hong Kong! Thousands of fans cheered Mexican Abraham Ancer’s victory at the debut LIV Golf at the Hong Kong Golf Club (Mar 8 – 10), after a thrilling play-off win over Paul Casey and Cameron Smith. Featuring 54 top golfers, including 14 major champions, competing for a share of the total US$25 million prize money, the tournament was broadcast to some 110 countries and regions and welcomed visitors from some 30 countries and regions, reaffirming Hong Kong’s reputation as a hub for mega sports events in Asia.
