The Golden Lions for Lifetime Achievement of the 80th Venice International Film Festival goes to (drum roll please!) Tony Leung, who will become the first Chinese actor to receive the much coveted award in September this year! Widely considered the best native Hong Kong actor of his generation (1), multiple-award winner Tony Leung is best known for his work with auteur director Wong Kar-wai in seven movies (2) since 1990. He also starred in three Venice Film Festival Golden Lion-winning films (3), cementing his reputation internationally in the arthouse cinema world. Earlier this month, Leung celebrated double success at the 16th Asian Film Awards picking up the Best Actor Award for his role in Where the Wind Blows (2022) and receiving the Asian Film Contribution Award. Kevin Yeung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, congratulated Leung on the latest accolade, adding that his pursuit of excellence mirrored that of Hong Kong actors' spirit and the city's cultural richness.
